Recipient of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the Technology category, Michel Farley is a seasoned businessman and a born entrepreneur. He founded Varitron Technologies in 1991 with fewer than half a dozen employees.
In a highly complex and competitive industry, Varitron Technologies stood out immediately, thanks to superior production quality and strong customer commitment. Michel very quickly made his presence felt within the company, making sure to be personally involved in all facets of production. Today, he is at the helm of a company experiencing strong growth despite the clouds of uncertainty hanging over the global economy. Varitron Technologies, which celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2011, is now Québec’s largest electronics assembly company, according to Les Affaires newspaper.
Dedicated to helping the community, he just started the social project Réussite Rive-Sud to prevent school dropout and is actively involved with a consultation group to stimulate entrepreneurship in Québec. Over the years, he has also contributed to the growth of several startup companies.
Chief Executive Officer
Chartered accountant with B.A.A from the H.E.C., Martial Vincent has been practicing for more than 25 years his expertise in the field of innovation. His strategic vision and leadership have enabled him undertake and deliver mandates with high added value in companies such as Astral, Videotron and Samson Bélair.
Since 2008, he has been Chief Executive Officer at Group Varitron Technologies and is also a member of board and shareholder. He is closely involved in community life, including as founder and a board member of Festival Classica, an urban classical-music festival that takes place in Saint-Lambert. Martial also sits on the board of directors and is a member of the Advisory Board of the Centre Laurent Beaudoin, associated with the Faculty of Management at the University of Sherbrooke.
Vice President, Finance and Controller
Serge Laflamme is a certified management accountant (CPA-CMA) and holds a bachelor of business administration degree (BBA) from HEC Montréal. An executive member and shareholder of Varitron Technologies Group, he has more than 20 years of experience in the electronics, energy (Norcan/Calex) and banking (Laurentian Bank) industries.
Serge is also actively involved in the community, and is co-founder and treasurer of a co-operative food service that enables disadvantaged schoolchildren to have healthy and balanced daily meals.
Vice President – Sales and Customer Services
Patrice is a results-driven executive with more than 17 years of experience in the industry. He worked previously with CMC Electronics and Ultra Electronics, and he has solid experience in technology transfer and military applications.
Patrice has IPC Class 3 training and is an active IPC and SMTA member. Patrice’s former positions (business unit manager, director of operations, supply chain manager and others) have enabled him to build an extensive understanding of how to align Varitron’s manufacturing and supply-chain strategies with customers’ needs.
Vice President – Operations
Francis Mercier has more than 20 years of experience in industrial automation (Fédico), product development and industrial processes (Télécité, Alstom). He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Université de Sherbrooke and is a member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec.
As a partner in the start-up of two businesses and a skilled growth manager, he has developed extensive expertise in product development (mechanical, electronic and software), lean management/lean manufacturing, industrial transfer and product lifecycle management.
Vice President – Human Capital
Jean-François Simoneau works in the human resources field for over fifteen years in the manufacturing, retail and wholesale industries. His past realisations include leading HR teams and various projects of acquisitions, mergers and businesses consolidations, development and deployment of strategic plans, as well as processes and systems implementation.
CHRP certified with a bachelor degree in Human Ressources, Jean-François is a manager focused on continuous improvement and operational excellence, both in corporate and operational roles in Canada and in the United States.
